Resilience in the face of loss
Sujad Harazin, age 17, has endured challenges that would overwhelm most adults. She and her family were forced to abandon their home in Gaza due to frequent attacks and are now stranded in Rafah. Tragedy struck again when her brother vanished while passing through a checkpoint, leaving no trace. His absence has broken her, as he was her rock after her father. Despite her distress, Sujad has taken it upon herself to support her family by brewing and selling coffee and tea under unbelievable circumstances.
An Everyday Fight for Survival
Sujad considers each day a challenge of perseverance. Even the most basic task, accessing water, requires hours of waiting. Her employment is uncertain; there is no guarantee she will sell enough drinks to meet her family's necessities. Her small salary barely keeps them afloat, and her obligations are excessive for someone her age. Nonetheless, she perseveres, determined to do everything she can to ensure her family's survival.
A Shared Struggle throughout Gaza
Sujad's experience proves the difficult reality that several Gazan families face. They face daily battles for survival after being forced to leave their homes, separated from loved ones, and living in miserable conditions. For thousands of children like her, life has become a series of sacrifices, with little opportunities for school, nutritious meals and healthcare. In a conflict-torn region, young people face far-reaching responsibilities.
