Diary of Mahmoud: Our acting country director in Gaza

Mahmoud, our Human Appeal acting country director in Gaza, feels tremendous sadness whenever he discusses the ongoing conflict. His once lively city, full of fond memories, is now in ruins. "It has become a pile of rubble," he grieves. Like so many others in Gaza, his home is now a distant memory.

The humanitarian crisis has left Gaza devastated, with severe lack of basic necessities. Livestock, which is critical for many families' livelihoods, is scarce. However, Mahmoud and the Human Appeal team kept going, committed to provide joy to families in a time of despair.

A Family Faced with Sacrifice

Mahmoud's mission is extremely personal. "I miss my family very much," he admits. His dedication to delivering aid and developing life-saving initiatives frequently separates him from his loved ones. Despite this, he remains persistent in his dedication, motivated by a desire to brighten the lives of Gaza's children while offering hope to their families.

His team worked tirelessly to secure enough sheep to distribute to vulnerable families. "We were able to make children and their families happy," Mahmoud says, finding refuge in these moments of joy amidst great obstacles.
