Our CEO and management team are accountable to our Board of Trustees, which directs, governs, and oversees our charity — setting and reviewing our strategic direction, and ensuring our work stays compliant, transparent, and accountable.
Appointed in November 2021, Abdulwahab leads the Board's strategy, governance, and overall effectiveness. With 18+ years at Mumineen Relief and four years at Human Appeal, he brings deep humanitarian experience across Pakistan, Palestine, Sudan, Libya, and Nigeria.
A professor of Accounting and Governance and Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the College of Business, Law, and Social Sciences at the University of Derby, he's the founding Chair of the Educational Support Initiative for Africa, which has donated over 75,000 books and academic journals to African universities.
Appointed in August 2021, Fariba Ludin brings extensive experience in administration, operations, and finance across corporate and nonprofit sectors, including volunteer work with her local masjid's Women's Committee as Treasurer.
Appointed in December 2021, Munir Eltal is a Project Manager with a background in biomedical engineering and a PMP Certification. Based in Southern California, he also studied and taught Arabic at the Institute of Knowledge.
Appointed in 2024, Dr. Safwat Morsy is President of Al Sabeel and a professor at both GTF and Manara University, where he heads the Islamic Jurisprudence Department. He holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from the Graduate Theological Foundation.

An Emergency Medicine specialist, Dr. Alhefny previously served as Registrar in Emergency Medicine at Erfan and Bagedo General Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and holds membership in the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the Saudi Society of Emergency Medicine.
The day-to-day operation of Human Appeal is overseen by a corporate Leadership Team. They are responsible for shaping our goals and ensuring we achieve them — the Chief Executive is responsible to the Trustees for the management of Human Appeal.
CEO of Human Appeal since April 2019, Dr. Ashmawey previously served as CEO for both Islamic Relief USA and Islamic Relief Worldwide. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland and won the AidEx Humanitarian Hero Award in 2022.
Owais Khan has spent 14 years in the development sector and joined Human Appeal in September 2014. As Deputy CEO, he reports to the CEO and Chair of the Board of Trustees, and oversees the organization's daily operations, growth, and digital transformation.
