Coffee trees for farmers in Yemen
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “The people of Yemen are on the verge of ascending upon you as if they are clouds. They are the best (people) on Earth.”
$35 – Provide coffee tree seedlings, training, fertilizer, pipes, a water tank and other farming equipment to a family in Yemen.
Yemeni farmers have been growing coffee for 500 years, producing beans famed and sought-after around the world. But since the start of the conflict, coffee farmers have struggled to maintain their farms, forced to meet urgent needs to survive. Extreme water shortages have pushed up the need for imports, and their prices. Only a third of families have access to mains water, and farmers struggle to store water and irrigate their trees.
Help us to revive the coffee farming industry by providing farmers with the training and tools to recover their livelihoods. When coffee farmers can successfully grow and sell coffee, their incomes also grow, ensuring their families can consistently eat healthy meals.
With your help, we want to help 100 farming families, about 1,200 people, to rehabilitate land with Yemeni coffee tree cultivation, and help improve water usage.
How coffee trees transform futures
When you give $35, you’ll help to provide a farming family with coffee tree seedlings, a water tank, pipes, fertilizing equipment and maintenance supplies, and technical training. We’ll also provide them with training over the course of 2-4 weeks on coffee bean production and management, as well as a small grant to help them start their business.
Each seedling will be between 1 and 1.5 meters, and between 1 to 1.5 years in age. These trees take 3 to 4 years to mature and begin to fruit, but once they do, they can produce beans twice each year, and last for 30 or 40 years. One tree can produce 5 -10 kilograms of coffee per year.
Why give a coffee tree?
Our coffee tree project helps farmers with experience in coffee farming to return to this agri-business, empowering them to be able to lift themselves out of poverty and support their families. We’ll also give priority to women-led households or families with very young children or pregnant women.
When you give, you’ll receive a gift certificate signed by the farmer who receives your tree, creating a beautiful connection between you both.
