The charity is distributing beekeeping kits across districts in Northwest Syria to vulnerable families, aiding sustainable farming practices
Human Appeal, a leading global humanitarian non-profit, unveils a new localised farming initiative, supplying beekeeping kits across Northwest Syria. The project will support families affected by years of conflict, many of whom have lost their jobs and livelihoods. By enabling them to produce and sell honey, the initiative aims to restore financial independence while promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices.
The scheme will target people and families across the districts of Harem, Salqin, and Jisr Al-Shughur in Idlib countryside, providing beneficiaries with a complete beekeeping package, including beehives, protective suits, gloves, essential medications, alongside other beekeeping supplies required for successful honey production.
Human Appeal will provide training alongside distribution to ensure beneficiaries are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage their own beekeeping apiaries. This support will allow families to establish small-scale businesses, generate reliable income, and contribute to the local economy’s recovery.
A successful, similar initiative by Human Appeal is captured in the award-winning documentary film Pot of Gold, produced by Chief Productions in partnership with Human Appeal. Pot of Gold has reached global audiences through distribution on platforms including Amazon Prime Video USA and UK, following its premiere at the Manchester Film Festival, where it won Best Documentary Feature. The documentary follows Kashmiri beekeepers as they navigate environmental crises while building sustainable livelihoods through beekeeping. Approximately 30% of the honeybee farmers who joined the initiative in Kashmir are females.
Human Appeal continues to deliver vital programs across Syria, helping to tackle food scarcity and water shortages, displacement, as well as limited access to education and healthcare. Earlier this year, the charity also launched a campaign to save Al Imaan hospital in northwest Syria.
Zaheer Khan, Global Director of Fundraising at Human Appeal Says: “After years of conflict, many families in the Northwest of Syria are still struggling to rebuild their lives. This beekeeping project is about more than just providing equipment, but about restoring dignity, independence, and hope. By supporting families to create their own livelihoods through projects such as these, we are encouraging and supporting communities to move towards a more sustainable and self-reliant future”.
