Reema is a young girl from Gaza living with Epidermolysis Bullosa — known as Butterfly Disease — a rare and devastating condition that causes her skin to blister and tear with the slightest touch. She has painful open wounds across her back and limbs, and her condition is now affecting her sight, heart, and kidneys. She is severely malnourished. She and her family live in a tent on a rooftop, exposed to extreme heat. Her father has heart disease. Her eldest brother, the family’s only breadwinner, was injured during the war and can no longer work. They have no income and cannot afford the wound care, medication, or nutrition Reema urgently needs.
With your support, Reema received 14 days of intensive care at AWDA Hospital — a specialized diet, daily nursing, wound care, check-ups, medications, and nutritional supplements. It stopped her health from getting worse and gave her a safer, healthier starting point. But when she returned home, the specialized care was impossible to maintain. Her condition is lifelong and complex, and without continued support, her health declined again.
AWDA’s medical team has reassessed Reema and prepared a six-month plan to keep her well — covering nutrition, wound care, heart and kidney monitoring, physical therapy, emotional support, and family training so her caregivers can safely look after her at home. Human Appeal is committed to funding Reema's care for as long as she needs it, beyond this six-month plan. There is no cap on what we will raise for her.
Epidermolysis Bullosa causes constant painful wounds requiring specialist daily nursing care, which her family cannot afford.
Without treatment, her condition will worsen and lead to further complications.
Her family has no income, no shelter from the heat, and no means to access the care she desperately needs.
A safe place for Reema to receive urgent care, daily wound dressing, and nursing support at AWDA Hospital
Nourishing meals, nutritional supplements, essential medicines, and hygiene supplies to protect her from infection
Medical check-ups and tests to stabilize her condition and prepare her for the next stage of treatment she may need
