A staggering 85% of all people in Gaza are now displaced, and 70% of homes are damaged or destroyed. According to Human Appeal’s team in Gaza, there is officially no safe place left in the entire Gaza Strip.
This, amid spiraling starvation that threatens to trigger another humanitarian crisis. The UN says that half of Gaza is now starving as 90% of people in the north and 66% of people in the south are not eating every day.
Of the 700,000 people across the entire globe facing catastrophic hunger, over 80% of them are in Gaza.
Our aid is reaching Gaza
Your support has allowed our local team to source aid within Gaza, while we also bring in relief from the outside. So far, you’ve helped over 573,000 people in Gaza to have access to medicine, reinforced shelter, hygiene items, food, and warm winter items.
We’ve delivered five planes full of aid – that’s over 120 tons – in partnership with Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO). This essential relief has already provided $1.5 million worth of medicines including antibiotics, anesthesia, items for surgery, rehabilitation, infant care, pain relief, and prenatal vitamins.
Our convoy of three shipping containers has also entered Gaza, providing over 36 tons of food, 32 crates of winter clothing, as well as 2,000 blankets, and 2,000 mattresses.
Human Appeal has launched a mobile clinic in Rafah, providing essential healthcare for the sick, and injured displaced families as we move between different school shelters each day. We’re also installing waterproof and fire-resistant tents across 29 shelter schools across the south. Our desalination plant, the largest in southern Gaza is providing 52,000 litres of water every single hour.
Over 69,000 people have been wounded, and more than 7,000 are still missing and suspected to be dead and under the rubble – half of them are children. 23 hospitals and 49 clinics, including Al Shifa and Al-Quds hospitals have closed. Premature babies had to be removed from their incubators, and life support has turned off for critically ill patients. There are no more services for cancer patients, and the last hospitals still working in the south are full beyond capacity.
Each day, doctors are tirelessly saving numerous lives under challenging circumstances – performing c-sections without anesthesia, using vinegar from the local shop to clean wounds, and forced to amputate children’s limbs that could be saved with proper supplies.
Humanitarian crisis unfolding: Devastation in Gaza
We are urgently concerned about food and hygiene supplies in Gaza. With most people struggling to eat every day and concerning signs of epidemic diseases, we urge more aid to be permitted into Gaza. The UN has warned that bloody diarrhea and jaundice, as well as high levels of infections are a worrying signal of an epidemic.
A complete siege has cut off all food, water, fuel and electricity from 2.3 million people. Terrifying scenes show utter destruction of cities razed to the ground, highways strewn with rubble and bodies, and of generations of families carrying what they can as they flee to southern Gaza.
Scale of destruction
Now, terrifying scenes show utter destruction of cities razed to the ground, highways strewn with rubble and bodies, and of generations of families being pushed into increasingly small permitted zones. Hospitals, mosques, water sources and residential buildings are being struck without warning, wiping out entire neighbourhoods. Those who escape have sought shelter in schools and hospitals, but these have also been targeted by bombs.
Nearly 1.9 million people have been forced to flee their homes, seeking shelter in homes, makeshift shelters, hospitals and UN schools in the south. The designated refuge area in Gaza – which 1.9 million people are expected to go to - is smaller than Heathrow Airport. They are overcrowded, a health risk, and still not safe from attack.
Palestinian families who have fled their homes without food or belongings urgently need food, hygiene items and shelter.
Injured patients who are in the few remaining hospitals urgently need your support to keep generators working.
Paramedics struggling to get fuel in order to reach the injured need your support now.
Every minute, and every single penny counts.
