Muslim Charity Aims to Collect 3,000 Coats for Homeless and Vulnerable People in Manchester, Birmingam and Glasgow, This Winter

Human Appeal, a British Muslim faith-based NGO, have announced they are aiming to collect 3,000 unwanted coats to give to homeless people in Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. Human Appeal will run Wrap Up Manchester for the third year in a row this year and Wrap Up Birmingham and Wrap Up Glasgow for the second year. Each campaign is delivered in partnership with flexible volunteering focused charity Hands On London, which this year sees the eighth annual Wrap Up London, the project which inspired Wrap Up Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

The campaign will see Human Appeal set up numerous donation points across the cities, including locations as high profile as Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station and various SafeStore self storage locations across the cities, where the public can drop off unwanted coats from the 12th November until 23rd November. From there Human Appeal sort through the coats and then distribute them to homeless shelters and other centres. From there people who need the coats go and collect them from professionals who can also provide advice and services to help beneficiaries.

Samra Said, the UK Domestic Programmes Manager for Human Appeal, says

“Charity is a key part of the Muslim faith and there is a great need for charity here at home, in the UK. We, in Human Appeal, want to not only offer a hand to those in desperate need of humanitarian aid, but to wrap an arm around those in desperate need of warmth. We aim to help people in need all across the world regardless of their race or religion or gender or location. Whether it’s someone in need in Mosul or Manchester, Human Appeal aims to help in every humanitarian crisis.

“This is our third year of Wrap Up Manchester and our second year of Wrap Up Birmingham and Wrap Up Glasgow and, every year, the response we have received has been overwhelming. The winter months can be unforgiving for those sleeping rough or unable to afford a winter coat.”

“In the harsh winter months, Human Appeal wants to help local communities in Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow to come together to help those most in need. We hope as many as people as possible will warm someone’s body with a coat and warm their heart by letting them know you care.”

Jon Meech, CEO for Hands On London, says

“We are excited to have Human Appeal on board once again for another year of coat collecting. We at Hands On London, were excited to start this partnership three-years-ago and it has gone from strength-to-strength from then on in. The partnership between Hands on London and Human Appeal just goes to show how, by working together, we can collect more and more coats, reach more and more people and change more and more lives. Human Appeal is also the proud charity sponsor of Wrap Up London, a campaign developed by Hands On London which has now inspired five other “Wrap Up” campaigns across Great Britain”
