Will people like what I cook? Well, we’ve put together a recipe for our tasty Indian lamb curry, which will make your guests ask for more! Lamb meat is rich in iron, protein, vitamins and essential minerals. Meat was rarely consumed by the Prophet (saw) due to its lack of availability. It was therefore, considered as ‘na’eem,’ meaning luxury, so when it was eaten, it was eaten with great joy.
This hadith is referring to the meat of a lamb, and this has inspired us to bring you this recipe today.
Indian Lamb Curry
Serves: 10-12 servings
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour
Ingredients:
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 bay leaves
4 whole cloves
5 black peppercorns
4 cardamom pods
2 snapped cinnamons sticks
4 yellow onions chopped
4 pounds lamb cut into pieces of desired size
1 tablespoon ginger minced
1 tablespoon garlic minced
1 heaped table spoon salt
Coriander (to garnish)
Spices:
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/4 teaspoon chilli powder
2 teaspoons coriander powder
2 teaspoons garam masala powder
2 teaspoons of cumin powder
2 tomatoes chopped
Method:
1. To a large sauce pan, add the oil on medium heat with the bay leaves, cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon sticks and cardamom pods.
2. Add onions, ginger, garlic and salt, and cook, stirring for 8-10 minutes.
3. Add in the lamb, turmeric, coriander, cumin and garam masala powders
4. Add tomato and let simmer on medium-low heat for 45 minutes, sprinkling coriander just before serving.
