Wrap Up campaign launches across the U.K. to keep over 21,000 homeless warm this winter

Human Appeal, a British Muslim faith-based charity, has partnered with Hands On London, a volunteer-led London-based charity, for the annual launch of the Hands On London Wrap Up winter campaign. The campaign aims to collect over 21,000 coats, which will go directly to community organisations supporting the homeless, the elderly suffering from fuel poverty, refugees, and women and children fleeing domestic violence.

Now bigger than ever, the Wrap Up campaign is coming to four major UK cities this year; London, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham.

2017 marks the seventh year in which Hands on London has successfully run Wrap Up London, collecting a staggering 22,500 coats in 2016.  Human Appeal is bringing the campaign to Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, marking Wrap Up Manchester’s second year but the first year the campaign has expanded to Glasgow and Birmingham.  When Wrap Up Manchester was launched, the aim was to collect 700 coats for vulnerable people over the winter period but instead an incredible 1,500 items were received.

The Wrap Up campaign will operate across six London tube stations (courtesy of Transport for London) and Manchester Piccadilly station (supported by Network Rail) for coat donations from 13th-15th November.  Coats can also be donated to selected SafeStore self-storage centres across London, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham from 13th – 24th November.

Jon Meech, Hands On London’s Chief Executive says:

"It is a truly humbling experience to see people coming together to help those most vulnerable in our community. Last year, over 850 people collected almost 23,000 warm coats. Without our volunteers, none of this would happen. This year again, tens of thousands of people will be a little warmer, not just physically, but also knowing someone cares. "

Othman Moqbel, Human Appeal’s Chief Executive says:

“The winter months can be unforgiving for those sleeping rough or unable to afford a winter coat. We, in Human Appeal, want to not only offer a hand to those in desperate need of humanitarian aid, but to wrap an arm around those in desperate need of warmth. We aim to help people in need all across the world regardless of their race, religion, gender or location. Whether it’s someone in need in Mosul or Manchester, Human Appeal aims to help in every humanitarian crisis.”
